82R4257 JGH-D By: McClendon H.R. No. 73 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Clarence R. Williams is retiring as president and chief executive officer of the San Antonio Area Foundation on December 31, 2011, drawing to a close more than a decade of outstanding service to the community; and WHEREAS, Over the course of his tenure, "Reggie" Williams has skillfully guided the foundation in fulfilling its mission to help donors in South Central Texas achieve their philanthropic goals by building partnerships with nonprofit organizations; under his leadership, the foundation has established scholarships, instituted environmental education programs, and provided support to wounded veterans and senior citizens; and WHEREAS, After earning a master's degree in education, Mr. Williams was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Air Force, and he is a graduate of the National Defense University's Armed Forces Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces; he retired from the air force at the rank of colonel and went on to work as senior vice president of information systems operations at USAA insurance company; and WHEREAS, Mr. Williams has served his community as board president of the Rotary Club of San Antonio, chair of the advisory board of the San Antonio United Negro College Fund, and executive chair of the USAA Volunteer Corp; he has also been an advisor to the board of Ella Austin Community Center and a member of the boards of Los Compadres de San Antonio Missions, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa, the College of Wooster, and the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County, among others; and WHEREAS, For many years, Reggie Williams has been an inspiring mentor and civic leader in San Antonio, earning the respect and admiration of countless individuals, and his dedication, professionalism, and deep compassion have greatly benefited the community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby commend Clarence R. Williams on his exemplary service as president and CEO of the San Antonio Area Foundation and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Williams as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
