 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Brad Shanklin is stepping down from the board of
 trustees of the Plano Independent School District at the end of his
 term in May 2011 after six years of distinguished service; and
 WHEREAS, A resident of Plano since 1997, Mr. Shanklin
 originally worked with Plano ISD as a volunteer on the Blue Ribbon
 Boundary Committee and as co-chair of the 2004 Facilities and
 Technology Bond Task Force; and
 WHEREAS, He was first elected to the board of trustees in 2005
 and was reelected in 2008; his fellow trustees chose him to serve as
 board vice president in 2008, and he continued in that role for the
 following two years; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Shanklin has further contributed to the district
 as a member of the Plano ISD Education Foundation Board and the
 Teacher of the Year Selection Committee; he has also worked on two
 school-based improvement committees and established a Dad's Club at
 Schimelpfenig Middle School; moreover, he is vice president of the
 Plano Rotary Club and a graduate of Leadership Plano, and in 2004,
 he was named one of the "21 Leaders for the 21st Century" by Inside
 Collin County Business; and
 WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, Mr.
 Shanklin worked for U.S. Senator John Tower and then spent 14 years
 with the American Heart Association; he was president and CEO of the
 Plano Chamber of Commerce for nearly eight years, and he is
 currently director of chapter business services at Meeting
 Professionals International in Dallas; and
 WHEREAS, Brad Shanklin's dedication and professionalism
 during his tenure as a member of the Plano ISD board of trustees
 have greatly benefited area residents, and he may indeed reflect
 with pride on a job well done; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby commend Brad Shanklin for his service as a
 trustee of the Plano Independent School District and extend to him
 sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Shanklin as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
