R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Captain David Shedd has been named the 2011 Mesquite
Fire Department Officer of the Year; and
WHEREAS, During a career with the Mesquite Fire Department
that has spanned nearly three decades, Captain Shedd has gained
valuable experience in a variety of areas, including fire
suppression, fire inspection, and EMS; he has distinguished himself
as head of the bomb team and in arson investigation efforts and
helped to implement new records management and computer systems;
today, he serves as captain of the organization's busiest station;
and
WHEREAS, In addition to his work with the fire department,
Captain Shedd has given back to his community as a volunteer with
Addressing Mesquite Day; each year, he organizes labor and
materials for the endeavor, which restores older homes in need of
repair; he has also shared his time with the Fired Up for Santa
program, coordinating the collection and distribution of gifts for
the underprivileged; and
WHEREAS, David Shedd has dedicated himself to protecting the
lives and property of his fellow citizens, and his contributions
have earned the profound gratitude of his neighbors and the lasting
respect of his colleagues; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Captain David Shedd on his
selection as the 2011 Mesquite Fire Department Officer of the Year
and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Captain Shedd as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
