 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The residents of Hutto lost an admired civic leader
 with the death of Mayor David F. Begier on March 3, 2011, at the age
 of 69; and
 WHEREAS, David Begier was born near Buffalo, New York, on
 June 7, 1941; after graduating from Lancaster High School, he
 answered his nation's call to duty and served for four years in the
 United States Air Force, earning the rank of sergeant; he then
 returned to Buffalo to begin his professional career as an engineer
 with Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory; in time, however, he grew
 eager for a warmer climate, and in 1978 he moved with his family to
 Round Rock; he worked with Texas Instruments and afterward with the
 Quintus Corporation, where he held the post of IT manager; and
 WHEREAS, Following his retirement, David Begier moved to
 Hutto in 2004 and devoted himself to public service; passionate
 about his community, he served on the planning and zoning
 commission and subsequently won election to the city council in
 2007; in 2009, he was elected to fill the unexpired term of Mayor
 Kenneth Love, and in 2010, he won election to a full three-year
 term; and
 WHEREAS, A respected figure who helped build unity in the
 community, Mayor Begier presided over the second-fastest-growing
 city in Texas; he helped guide many plans to improve the quality of
 life in Hutto, including initiatives to create more parks and to
 restore the vitality of the downtown area, and he played an
 instrumental role in persuading Temple College and Texas State
 Technical College to build a campus in the city; and
 WHEREAS, Generous with his time and talents, Mayor Begier
 volunteered with a number of worthy organizations, including the
 Hutto Education Foundation, the Hutto Chamber of Commerce, and the
 Adopt a Unit program; he also served as the director of governmental
 relations for the Williamson County Symphony Orchestra and as a
 member of the board of directors for Envision Central Texas; and
 WHEREAS, Mayor Begier enjoyed a rewarding marriage with his
 wife, Barbara, until her passing in 1997, and he was blessed with a
 son, David; and
 WHEREAS, Known for his outgoing personality and wonderful
 sense of humor, David Begier lived a full and generous life, and the
 legacy of his vision and public service will continue to resonate in
 the Hutto community for years to come; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of the Honorable David
 F. Begier and extend sincere condolences to his son, David, and to
 his other relatives and loved ones; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of David F.
 Begier.
