82R13915 JGH-D By: Hilderbran H.R. No. 943 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories of Richard Y. Thorpe of Ballinger, who passed away on February 20, 2011, at the age of 79; and WHEREAS, A native of Nashville, Tennessee, Dick Thorpe was born on February 22, 1931, to Moneta Allison and Richard Y. Thorpe, Sr.; he attended the Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville and answered his nation's call to duty with service in the U.S. Air Force; he later enrolled at Vanderbilt University, eventually earning a degree from Davidson College in North Carolina; and WHEREAS, Mr. Thorpe enjoyed a long career in the carpet manufacturing and distribution business, working as a manager for L. D. Brinkman, Jones Mills, and Galaxy Carpet Mills and as CEO for Landmark Carpet Mills; in retirement, he dedicated himself to philanthropy in behalf of children with disabilities and other young people in need; and WHEREAS, Although Dick Thorpe will be deeply missed, he leaves behind a legacy that will forever be treasured by all those whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Richard Y. Thorpe and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his former wife, Sara Elizabeth Thorpe; to his sons, Dr. Richard Thorpe III and his wife, Karen, and Arthur Benjamin Thorpe and his wife, Alison; to his daughter, Allison P. Thorpe; to his brother, John Thorpe, and his wife, Nancy; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Richard Thorpe.
