No. 967 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Father William Culpeper Davis is celebrating his 80th birthday on March 27, 2011, and this important milestone offers a fitting opportunity to recognize his exceptional work in the ministry; and WHEREAS, The first of six children born to William and Mary Davis, Father Davis graduated from Central Catholic High School in San Antonio and went on to earn degrees in philosophy and theology from De Mazenod Scholasticate before attending Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, where he was awarded his master's degree in education; and WHEREAS, Father Davis began his career as a teacher at Oblate High School in Mexico City and later served as a history instructor and football coach at St. Anthony Catholic High School in San Antonio; he also traveled to Lusaka, Zambia, to train priests; and WHEREAS, Through the years, Father Davis has led a number of churches, including St. Mary's in San Antonio, Immaculate Heart of Mary in Houston, and San Francisco Javier in Laredo, where he currently guides his parish with wisdom and insight; in his many endeavors, he is driven by a strong commitment to social justice, and he has worked to strengthen education, promoted immigration initiatives, and supported nuns in Nicaragua; and WHEREAS, In his leisure time, Father Davis enjoys fishing, hunting, backpacking, and hiking, and his travels have included trips to the Grand Canyon and Canada to pursue these favorite pastimes; and WHEREAS, Father Davis has benefited many lives by offering comfort in times of sorrow, encouragement in times of change, and advice in times of crisis; his dedication and faith are an inspiration to all who know him, and it is a pleasure to honor him on 80 years of life well lived; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Father William Culpeper Davis on his 80th birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Father Davis as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
