                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            March 22, 2011      TO: Honorable Judith Zaffirini, Chair, Senate Committee on Higher Education      FROM: John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:SB1009 by Huffman (Relating to requiring public institutions of higher education to notify the federal Student Exchange and Visitor Information System (SEVIS) regarding the withdrawal or nonattendance of certain foreign students.), As Introduced    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would require public institutions of higher education to notify the federal Student Exchange and Visitor Information (SEVIS) if certain foreign students withdraw from all courses in which the student is enrolled or if the institution dismisses the student or takes any other official administrative action in regard to the student as a result of the student's nonattendance. Provisions of this bill would be implemented within existing resouces.  Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
