Kolkhorst, Chair, House Committee on Public Health FROM: John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE:SB118 by Uresti (Relating to a court's authority to order a proposed patient to receive extended outpatient mental health services.), As Engrossed No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would expand eligibility criteria associated with extended outpatient commitments to authorize a judge to place persons on extended outpatient commitments if they have either received a total of at least 60 days of court-ordered inpatient mental health services in the past year, or been in court-ordered outpatient mental health services in the preceding 60 days. The Department of State Health Services does not anticipate a substantial increase in the overall number of outpatient commitments associated with these proposed new eligibility criteria and therefore believe they can absorb any associated costs within existing resources. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
