The bill would amend the Family Code to extend the age from 18 to 19 years of age in which a juvenile placed on determinate sentence probation may be on probation.The Office of Court Administration reported the bill would be a procedural modification that would not have a significant fiscal impact on the courts.The bill would take effect September 1, 2011. Local Government Impact The Juvenile Probation Commission reported that based on fiscal year (FY) 2010 data, 123 total juveniles would be kept under supervision an additional year which would result in a cost of an estimated $551,759 for local governments. Dallas County reported the bill could increase the cost of delivering youth probation supervision by an estimated $150,000 per year.
