A holder of an electrical sign apprentice license does not need to complete continuing education. Continuing education has been shown to promote safety. Section 1305.168 (Continuing Education), Occupations Code, states that in order to renew an electrical apprentice license, a license holder who is not enrolled in an apprenticeship training course must complete four hours of continuing education annually. There is no requirement for an electrical sign apprentice license. S.B. 1372 amends Section 1305.168, Occupations Code, to include continuing education hours for electrical sign apprentice licenses. As proposed, S.B. 1372 amends current law relating to the renewal of electrical sign apprentice licenses. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 1305.168(b-1), Occupations Code, to require a license holder who is not enrolled in an apprenticeship training program, to renew an electrical apprentice license or electrical sign apprentice license, to complete four hours of continuing education annually. SECTION 2. Makes application of this Act prospective to September 1, 2012. SECTION 3. Effective date: September 1, 2011.
