Kolkhorst, Chair, House Committee on Public Health FROM: John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE:SB1421 by Nelson (Relating to the awarding of grants provided by the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas.), As Engrossed No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would amend Section 102.256 of the Health and Safety Code to include interest or proceeds resulting from securities and equity ownership for intellectual property agreements entered into as a result of grants awarded by the Cancer Prevention and Research Institue of Texas (CPRIT). The bill would amend Section 102.262 of the Health and Safety Code to include certain information submitted by an applicant or recipient of a CPRIT grant to be confidential and not subject to disclosure under public information laws. The bill would take effect September 1, 2011. It is anticipated that any additional costs associated with implementation of the legislation could be absorbed within existing resources. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
