The bill amends Health and Safety Code, Chapter 114, to expand the membership of the Interagency Obesity Council (Council) and its duties including requiring the Council to: 1) create best practices to promote healthier eating; 2) develop recommendations to help fund programs to bring fresh food to underserved areas in regard to the retail availability of healthy foods; 3) facilitate locally grown food for daycares and schools; 4) consider tax incentives for those who promote activities to reduce obesity in the workforce; and 5) consider incentives to encourage individuals on nutritional assistance to eat healthier foods like fruits and vegetables. It is anticipated that any costs associated with the provisions in the bill can be absorbed within existing agency resources. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
