LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION March 28, 2011 TO: Honorable Tommy Williams, Chair, Senate Committee on Transportation & Homeland Security FROM: John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE:SB1700 by Williams (Relating to checkpoints to ensure the validity of licenses and financial responsibility of vehicle operators.), As Introduced No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would amend the Transportation Code to permit the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to establish a program for the purposes of establishing checkpoints to ensure operators of motor vehicles possess required licenses and financial responsibility. DPS may establish and share costs of the checkpoint program with local law enforcement authorities. The bill includes provisions regarding the procedures required of the checkpoint program. The bill would take effect September 1, 2011. DPS has determined that the cost of implementing the provisions of this bill would not be significant. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
