Substitute the following for S.B. No. 224: No.
A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the award of a distinction designation to a public
school campus.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 39.203, Education Code, is amended by
amending Subsection (c) and adding Subsection (d) to read as
follows:
(c) In addition to the distinction designations described
by Subsections (a) and (b), a campus that satisfies the criteria
developed under Section 39.204 shall be awarded a distinction
designation by the commissioner for the following programs or the
following specific categories of performance:
(1) academic achievement in English language arts,
mathematics, science, or social studies;
(2) fine arts;
(3) physical and health education and wellness;
(4) 21st Century Workforce Development program; and
(5) second language acquisition program.
(d) The commissioner may establish partnerships with
private and nonprofit entities to provide monetary and in-kind
rewards to campuses that receive a distinction designation under
this section.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
