LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION March 20, 2011 TO: Honorable Chris Harris, Chair, Senate Committee on Jurisprudence FROM: John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE:SB285 by Harris (Relating to exempting certain judicial officers from certain requirements for obtaining or renewing a concealed handgun license and to the authority of certain judicial officers to carry certain weapons.), As Introduced No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would amend the Government Code to expand the list of active judicial officers who can receive a concealed handgun license under reduced requirements to include associate judges as defined by Family Code. The bill would also amend the Penal Code to exempt the same group from certain handgun offenses. The bill would take effect September 1, 2011. Amendments to the Penal Code would apply to offenses committed on or after the bill's effective date. For this analysis it is assumed implementing the provisions of the bill would not result in a significant impact on the programs and workload of State corrections agencies or on the demand for resources of those agencies. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
