                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            April 12, 2011      TO: Honorable Rob Eissler, Chair, House Committee on Public Education      FROM: John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:SB419 by West (Relating to prohibiting state funding to public junior colleges for physical education courses offered for joint high school and junior college credit.), As Engrossed    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would implement a recommendation in the report, "Monitor Outcomes and Limit Course Offerings to Ensure Dual Credit Course Quality" in the Legislative Budget Board's Government Effectiveness and Efficiency Report submitted to the Eighty-Second Texas Legislature, 2011. This bill excludes the contact hours attributable to a joint highschool and junior college credit course for which a high school student may receive course credit toward the physical education curriculum requirement under Section 28.002(a)(2)(c). The agency estimates there would be a minimal savings associated with implementing the provisions of the bill. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
