The bill would amend the Health and Safety code to allow Schedule II drugs to be prescribed with an electronic prescription. While the bill does not specifically address the Medicaid or CHIP programs, the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) indicates there could be a savings to these programs from reduced prescription errors; it is assumed any savings would not be significant. The bill would also affect the Department of Public Safety (DPS) related to the collection of prescription drug data. This analysis assumes DPS could implement the provisions of the bill within existing appropriations. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
