                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            April 9, 2011      TO: Honorable John Whitmire, Chair, Senate Committee on Criminal Justice      FROM: John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:SB811 by Zaffirini (Relating to the regulation of the practice of veterinary medicine.), As Introduced    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend the Occupations Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure relating to the regulation of the practice of veterinary medicine. The bill would allow the Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners to issue a disciplinary order directing a veterinarian to participate in the peer assistance program. The bill would allow the board to commission employees as peace officers in certain instances. The bill would allow the board to contract with a board approved entity to conduct licensing examinations. Based on the analysis of the Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners and the Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education, it is assumed that responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
