                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            March 9, 2011      TO: Honorable Judith Zaffirini, Chair, Senate Committee on Higher Education      FROM: John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:SB851 by Zaffirini (relating to a uniform deadline for student financial assistance for public institutions of higher education other than public junior colleges.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  Under provisions of the bill, the Higher Education Coordinating Board would provide a uniform priority application deadline for applications for financial assistance for an academic year for general academic teaching institutions as defined by Section 61.003 of the Education Code. The Board would consult with financial aid personnel at institutions of higher education in adopting rules providing for the deadline. Any costs associated with implementing the bill would be absorbed within current resources. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
