SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Chapter 448, Government Code, provides for the establishment of a Juneteenth memorial monument on the grounds of the State Capitol, and the State Preservation Board approved the location of the monument at its meeting held on February 14, 2003; and WHEREAS, Rather than limiting the focus of the monument to the commemoration of Juneteenth, the legislature supports the establishment of a monument to celebrate the contributions of African American Texans to the history of this state at the location previously approved for a Juneteenth monument; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 82nd Legislature of the State of Texas hereby express support for the establishment of a monument to African American Texans on the grounds of the State Capitol at the location approved for a Juneteenth monument by the State Preservation Board in 2003; and, be it further RESOLVED, That the secretary of state forward an official copy of this resolution to the executive director and members of the State Preservation Board. * * * * *
