SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 143
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Garden City High School Bearkats six-man football
team, which recently won its second consecutive Division I state
championship title by defeating the Throckmorton High School
Greyhounds by a score of 82-68; and
WHEREAS, These young athletes have demonstrated great
talent and perseverance over the course of the season; team
members Blayne Batla, Brody Halfmann, Bryson Batla, Colton
Belew, Brian Hirt, Reggie Halfmann, Corbin Davis, Ismael Olveda,
Chapman Royall, Jacob Dalton, Aaron Long, Sam Miller, Ruben Mier,
Dillon Koenning, Peyton Schaefer, Josh Colunga, Austin Odom,
Shawn Walker, July Jost, Juan Bustos, Brett Chudej, Frankie
Zuniga, Cody Halfmann, Ian Schaefer, Brandon Gartman, Jonathan
Young, and Frankie Mier can all take great pride in their
outstanding performance; and
WHEREAS, Under the superior leadership of head coach Vance
Jones, and with the aid of assistant coaches Koby Abney, Alonzo
Garcia, Matt Odom, and Darrell Hunt, the Bearkats have developed
exceptional teamwork and discipline; and
WHEREAS, Principal and athletic director Ken Hoskins and
superintendent Steve Long provided important support; under the
sponsorship of Candy Jones, cheerleaders Sarah Avery, Britni
Cook, Shanna Halfmann, Rachel Hirt, Taylor Hughes, and Jesse
Jones, along with mascot Katy Multer, provided inspiration; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
Legislature, hereby commend the Garden City High School Bearkats
six-man football team on its outstanding season and extend
congratulations to team members on their second consecutive
state championship title; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
