SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 214 WHEREAS, The Idalou High School football team won the 2010 University Interscholastic League 2A Division 2 state championship with a victory over Lexington High School on December 18, 2010, at Vernon Newsom Stadium in Mansfield; and WHEREAS, The 20-3 win in the title game capped a remarkable 11-game winning streak by the Wildcats that saw them sweep all six of their league games and defeat five playoff opponents; after losing three close contests in their first four games, Idalou never let another team into double figures for the rest of the season, posting five shutouts and outpointing their rivals 394 to 27; and WHEREAS, The team's 12-3 record in 2010 was typical of the outstanding play Idalou has delivered under the guidance of Coach Johnny Taylor; the school has the best winning percentage in 2A football over the past decade and has made the playoffs for 12 consecutive years; and WHEREAS, Throughout their championship run, the Wildcats demonstrated teamwork, tenacity, competitiveness, and integrity; these talented and dedicated student-athletes are a source of great pride to their many supporters in the local community, and their exceptional performance on the gridiron in 2010 will long be remembered and celebrated; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby congratulate the Idalou High School football team on winning the University Interscholastic League 2A Division 2 state championship and extend sincere best wishes to the players, coaches, and staff for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
