SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 235 In Memory of Aida De Leon Uribe WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Brownsville in mourning the loss of Aida De Leon Uribe, who died May 6, 2010, at the age of 86; and WHEREAS, Born June 26, 1923, in Brownsville, Aida De Leon was educated at the parish school at Immaculate Conception and at Villa Maria Academy; she continued her education at Draughan's Business College in San Antonio, where she met her future husband, Blas Uribe III; and WHEREAS, Aida focused on raising their three children and on her work as a homemaker; she also pursued her own careers; after the family moved to Miami, she served in various capacities at the University of Miami and was named circulation editor of its Inter-American Studies journal; and WHEREAS, When the family returned to Brownsville, Aida served as a director of the Cameron County Housing Finance Corporation and was a passionate member of Valley Interfaith; and WHEREAS, An exemplary lady and a devout Catholic, Aida nurtured her children's spiritual environment and was consistently a leader in her community; she was highly accomplished and believed strongly in education; and WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity, she gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her wisdom and warmth will not be forgotten by those who knew her; and WHEREAS, Aida Uribe was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Aida De Leon Uribe; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Aida De Leon Uribe.
