                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 257
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize the technology and life sciences industries and
 research institutions of this state on the occasion of Texas
 Technology Week, which is being observed February 13 through 19,
 2011; and
 WHEREAS, Texas Technology Week is sponsored by TechAmerica
 Texas, the Texas Healthcare and Bioscience Institute, TechNet
 Texas, the Texas Coalition for Capital, and the Metroplex
 Technology Business Council, whose representatives are coming
 together to discuss the major issues facing their industries and
 to confirm their support for an educational system that will
 provide the skilled and talented workforce they will need; and
 WHEREAS, The technology and life sciences industries and
 research institutions in Texas are achieving leading-edge
 advances in medicine, space exploration, computing, communications,
 energy, and transportation, and these industries employ a large
 number of highly skilled workers in well-paying jobs; and
 WHEREAS, Texas is a leader in the life sciences area
 because of the research and work done in universities, in private
 research institutions, and in biotechnology, medical device, and
 pharmaceutical companies; people around the world have benefited
 significantly from the medical treatments and devices developed
 by these organizations; and
 WHEREAS, Texas owes much of its economic growth to the
 technology and life sciences industries; the state ranks second
 in the country in high-technology employment, and, with more than
 one-fifth of the state's exported products originating in the
 technology industry, it is the second-largest technology-exporting
 state; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, hereby proclaim February 13 through 19, 2011, as
 Texas Technology Week and extend to all participants best wishes
 for a rewarding and productive gathering; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
 expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
