                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 270
 In Memory
 of
 Beatrice Theresa Gonzalez Aleman
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Beatrice Theresa
 Gonzalez Aleman, who died February 5, 2011; and
 WHEREAS, Beatrice Gonzalez, "Bea," as her family and
 friends knew her, was born December 6, 1943, to Jose and Amelia
 Gonzalez; she moved with her family to a small house on Saint
 Francis Street in San Antonio's South Side in 1955; with her
 brothers and sisters, she attended Saint Philip of Jesus School;
 and
 WHEREAS, On her first day of the seventh grade, she met
 Joseph Lawrence Aleman; they became friends, fell in love, and
 ultimately married 14 years later in Saint Philip Church; the
 devoted couple raised four children together and were married for
 41 years; and
 WHEREAS, Bea graduated from Incarnate Word High School and
 earned a bachelor's degree from Incarnate Word College; she
 earned two master's degrees in education and administration but
 stopped working on a doctoral degree to focus more on her growing
 family; and
 WHEREAS, The family moved to South Bend, Indiana, where
 Lawrence pursued his master's degree in business administration
 at the University of Notre Dame; there, Bea and her whole family
 went through a transformation in the diverse community and their
 faith grew deeper; and
 WHEREAS, Bea had a passion for education and a strong
 belief in its benefits; during her forty years as a teacher and
 principal, she oversaw the education of thousands of children in
 Catholic and public schools in San Antonio, Houston, and South
 Bend, and she worked tirelessly so that her students might reach
 their full potential; and
 WHEREAS, Bea was also passionate about her faith and her
 devotion to the church; her services to the church included
 teaching religious education, leading marriage encounters,
 helping at fundraisers, and leading a children's choir; she and
 her husband ensured that their own children attended Catholic
 high schools and went on to prestigious universities for higher
 education; and
 WHEREAS, Beatrice Aleman was a devoted wife, mother, and
 grandmother; she was a courageous woman who leaves behind
 memories that will be treasured forever by her family, her many
 friends, and the many young people whose lives she touched while
 she was a teacher; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family of Beatrice Theresa Gonzalez Aleman: her husband,
 Lawrence; her children, Joseph Lawrence Aleman, Jr., Thomas
 Aleman, Theresa Aleman Anderson, and Stephen Aleman; her 11
 grandchildren; and her brothers and sisters; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of Beatrice Aleman.
