                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 326
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay
 tribute to the Texas cowboy and cowboys across the nation by
 recognizing July 23, 2011, and July 28, 2012, as National Day of
 the Cowboy; and
 WHEREAS, Pioneering men and women known as cowboys helped
 to establish America's frontiers; the archetype of the cowboy
 transcends gender, generations, ethnicity, geographic boundaries,
 and political affiliation; and
 WHEREAS, The cowboy embodies honesty, integrity, courage,
 compassion, and determination, and the cowboy spirit exemplifies
 patriotism and strength of character; and
 WHEREAS, Cowboy traditions have been part of the American
 landscape and culture since 1523, and the cowboy has been a
 central figure in literature, art, film, poetry and music; and
 WHEREAS, The cowboy is an excellent steward of the land; he
 understands the importance of protecting and improving the
 environment; and
 WHEREAS, Cowboys continue to play an important role in the
 economy through their work on more than 650,000 ranches across
 the nation and in rodeos, which attract more than 30 million fans
 worldwide each year; and
 WHEREAS, The cowboy is a true American icon, and it is
 fitting that a day be set aside to honor his significance in the
 development of this state and nation; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, hereby join citizens across the state and nation in
 recognizing July 23, 2011, and July 28, 2012, as National Day of
 the Cowboy; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared to
 commemorate the National Day of the Cowboy.
