SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 328 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Wilbur R. Aten for his many years of outstanding service as executive chaplain of the International Seamen's Center at the Port of Brownsville; and WHEREAS, Pastor of The Community Church in Rio Hondo, Mr. Aten has served as a minister for more than half a century; he is a graduate of Midwest Christian College and pursued graduate studies at the Graduate Seminary at Phillips University and at South Dakota State University; and WHEREAS, Mr. Aten founded the International Seamen's Center in 1974, which has through the years ministered to the temporal and spiritual needs of more than 550,000 merchant seamen from 186 different countries; he has been active in community affairs as cofounder and secretary of Christian Heritage Ministries, which operates Valley Christian High School in Brownsville; and WHEREAS, An accomplished scholar and theologian, he has written for several national publications and is the author of The Great Commission Festival: A Faith/Care Promise Program; and WHEREAS, Inspirational and dedicated to helping others, he is truly deserving of recognition for his many contributions to his faith and his community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby commend Wilbur R. Aten on his compassion and generosity as executive chaplain of the International Seamen's Center at the Port of Brownsville and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
