SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 350 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize United States Trade Representative Ron Kirk for his leadership and loyal service to his country; and WHEREAS, The Honorable Ron Kirk was named to the cabinet-level position by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the United States Senate in 2009; as United States Trade Representative, he serves as the president's principal trade advisor, negotiator, and spokesperson on trade issues; and WHEREAS, Under Ambassador Kirk's leadership, the office's trade policy has included a new focus on assisting America's small and medium-sized businesses, and the nation has benefited from increased enforcement of existing trade agreements; and WHEREAS, He also helped to secure a landmark agreement with Korea that offers more access for United States automotive manufacturers; the agreement with Korea is expected to support at least 70,000 American jobs in goods trade alone, increase exports of agricultural products for American farmers and ranchers, and open Korea's $560 billion services market to American companies; and WHEREAS, Ambassador Kirk is leading efforts to intensify engagement with Colombia and Panama and resolve the outstanding issues related to trade agreements with those nations as soon as possible this year; and WHEREAS, He is playing a leading role in helping the administration advance policies that will help American workers, businesses, and families through trade agreements that support job creation and fuel our country's economic recovery; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby commend Ambassador Ron Kirk for his outstanding leadership and his many contributions to this state and our nation; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Ambassador Kirk as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
