SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 394 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Dr. H. Randolph Bailey, who has been selected as the Distinguished Houston Surgeon for 2011 by the Houston Surgical Society; and WHEREAS, Dr. Bailey is currently chief of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery, Program Director Emeritus of the Residency Training Program for Colon and Rectal Surgery, and Clinical Professor of Surgery at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston; and WHEREAS, An honors graduate of Rice University, Dr. Bailey received his medical degree from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas; and WHEREAS, In addition to his work at the university, Dr. Bailey serves as chief of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery at The Methodist Hospital and is a clinical professor of surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College; he is a member of the board of regents for the American College of Surgeons and has won numerous awards, including Rice University's Distinguished Alumnus Award and the Surgical Teaching Award from The University of Texas Medical School at Houston; and WHEREAS, Dr. Bailey plays an integral role in Houston's surgical community, and it is truly fitting that he be honored with this prestigious award; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby commend Dr. H. Randolph Bailey on his many outstanding achievements as a physician and surgeon and extend congratulations to him on being named the Distinguished Houston Surgeon for 2011; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
