SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 426
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize February 24, 2011, as Responsible Pet Owners Alliance
Lobby Day at the Capitol; and
WHEREAS, The Responsible Pet Owners Alliance is known for
its valuable efforts to promote responsible pet ownership
through education and training assistance; in attendance at the
Capitol on this day as their mascot is the acclaimed Beagle
"Uno," who won the Best in Show title at the 2008 Westminster
Kennel Club Dog Show; and
WHEREAS, Pets play an important role in the lives of many
residents in the State of Texas; more than cute balls of fur, they
are living, breathing prescriptions for what often ails people;
their joy and spirit encourages those around them, and their
companionship comforts their owners and can chase the blues away;
and
WHEREAS, Big or little, all kinds of pets run, walk, crawl,
slither, and fly their way into their owners' hearts, and in
doing so, they bring about improved physical and mental
well-being in ways nothing else can; and
WHEREAS, Well-behaved pets are not born; they are the
result of care, attention, and training; in return for all these
things, pets give their families a lifetime of devotion and
companionship; and
WHEREAS, It is recognized that dog-related problems are most
often caused by irresponsible owners; both dogs and owners benefit
greatly when dogs understand and reliably demonstrate acceptable
behavior, which can be learned and verified through such programs
as the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen Certification
Program and the Pet Education, Assistance, and All-Species
Rescue Program of the Responsible Pet Owners Alliance and the
American Kennel Club in Texas; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
Legislature, hereby commend all the responsible pet owners of
this state and recognize February 24, 2011, as Responsible Pet
Owners Alliance Lobby Day at the Capitol; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
honor of this day.
