SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 488 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the members of the Texian Legacy Association who provided an honor guard for the presentation of the original Texas Declaration of Independence in the Senate Chamber on March 2, 2011, Texas Independence Day; and WHEREAS, Dedicated to the memory of early Texas cultures, lifestyles, and histories, the Texian Legacy Association works to research, preserve, and teach the skills and history of pre-1840 Texas through public living history presentations and reenactments; and WHEREAS, The association is committed to providing schools, organizations, and the general public with broad-based and accurate perspectives of early Texas in a realistic, interactive environment; it works diligently to present a full range of historical perspectives, including the experiences of the people of African, Native American, and Hispanic descent as well as those of early European pioneers; and WHEREAS, Association members who participated in the Texas Declaration of Independence presentation were George Rollow, Charlie Yates, Steve von Roeder, Jim Price, Terry Ayers, and John Tyler; earlier in the day, they had also taken part in a memorial service at the State Cemetery honoring the veterans of the Texas Revolution, where they provided a color guard and musket volley; and WHEREAS, This respected organization is truly deserving of recognition for its efforts to promote wider understanding of this state's rich historical heritage; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby commend the Texian Legacy Association on its dedication to providing Texans with accurate depictions of their history and extend to its members best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the members of the association as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
