                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 549
 In Memory
 of
 Gabriel R. Garcia
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Gabriel R. Garcia, who
 died March 6, 2011, at the age of 88; and
 WHEREAS, Gabriel Garcia was an exemplary citizen who was
 widely admired in his community for his many achievements; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia served the nation with honor and
 distinction in the United States Armed Forces during World War II,
 serving in the European theater in Germany from 1942 to 1945; and
 WHEREAS, Known as Pops to his friends and family, he
 enjoyed a fulfilling, 38-year career with the City of Austin; and
 WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
 gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, good humor, and
 enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be
 forgotten; and
 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
 and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
 his family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family of Gabriel Garcia: his loving wife of 65 years, Alvina A. Garcia;
 his daughters and sons-in-law, Olga and Joe Bruening and Ruth and
 Ali Shaker; his son and daughter-in-law, Gabriel Garcia, Jr., and
 Shawn; and his eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren;
 and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
 and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
 Gabriel R. Garcia.
