                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 681
 In Memory
 of
 John E. Tomlin
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
 commemorates the life of Shelby County Judge John E. Tomlin, who
 died July 21, 2009, at the age of 65; and
 WHEREAS, The Honorable John E. Tomlin had served as Shelby
 County Judge since January of 2007; he was proud of his community
 and was dedicated to making Shelby County a better place to live;
 and
 WHEREAS, He was especially committed to working with local
 officials on behalf of the community, and he was recognized for
 his work with the county commissioners that resulted in
 significant improvement in county roads; and
 WHEREAS, Judge Tomlin was a champion of the Texas
 Department of Agriculture's Go Texan Retirement Community
 project and started a program to recognize Center High School
 seniors for their overall contributions to their school and to
 those around them; and
 WHEREAS, He was a member of the First United Methodist
 Church, the Sons of the Republic of Texas, and the Historical
 Society; he was truly an asset for Shelby County, and he will be
 long remembered for his honesty, his reliability, his devotion to
 duty, and his love for his fellow man; and
 WHEREAS, John Tomlin was born on November 23, 1943, in
 Center, Texas, to Dewey Edward Tomlin and Nera Edna Ford Tomlin;
 he met his wife, Ann, while he was a student at Lamar State
 University, and they were married for 44 years; and
 WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, he left behind to mourn
 his loss his daughters and son-in-law, Angie Tomlin and Eric
 Wilkins and Suzanne Tomlin; his brother, Newton Tomlin; and other
 members of his family and his many friends; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life and legacy of Shelby
 County Judge John E. Tomlin; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 honor of the Honorable John E. Tomlin.
