                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 887
 In Memory
 of
 Porter Renfro, Jr.
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 citizens of Houston in mourning the loss of Porter Renfro, Jr.,
 who died Apri1 22, 2011, at the age of 81; and
 WHEREAS, Porter Renfro, Jr., was born October 6, 1929, in
 Corsicana to the Reverend Porter Renfro, Sr., and Marie Allen
 Renfro; he attended schools in Corsicana and became a Christian
 at an early age; he was baptized at the Greater Renfro Memorial
 Church of God in Christ, which was founded by his father; and
 WHEREAS, After serving his country in the United States
 Army during World War II, he moved to Houston and became an avid
 boxer; he developed his skills and became an accomplished athlete
 who enjoyed sharing his boxing skills with others; and
 WHEREAS, He was an entrepreneur in the hair care industry,
 a driver for the Coach Bus Line, and a freight coordinator for American
 Gear, where he worked for more than 25 years before retiring; and
 WHEREAS, In 1969, Porter married Althea, the love of his
 life, and they became a wonderfully blended family with seven
 children; together, they became leaders in the Fifth Ward
 community and were actively involved with the Zion Hill
 Missionary Baptist Church, where Porter was a deacon; and
 WHEREAS, Porter Renfro was a devoted husband, father, and
 grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
 forever by his family and his many friends; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family of Porter Renfro, Jr.:  his wife, Althea; his six
 children; and his 20 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren;
 and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of Porter Renfro, Jr.
