SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 919 In Memory of Cuth Kenneth Shepherd WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Lakeway in mourning the loss of Cuth Kenneth Shepherd, who died March 9, 2011, at the age of 98; and WHEREAS, Cuth Shepherd was born September 21, 1912, on his parents' farm in Eldon, Missouri; he was attending the University of Missouri when he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps and entered military service as a member of the United States Army Air Corps; and WHEREAS, He served the nation with honor and distinction in the Pacific theater during World War II, rising to the rank of major; he was awarded numerous medals and commendations, including an Army Commendation Medal and a Philippine Liberation Medal with a bronze star; and WHEREAS, Following the war, Mr. Shepherd returned to the Continental Oil Company, where he had worked before the war as a geophysicist; he served the company in numerous capacities through the years, including as president of Dubai Petroleum Company, before retiring in 1976; and WHEREAS, A 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, Mr. Shepherd served as the first mayor of the Village of Lakeway and held the office from 1983 through 1987 and again from 1990 through 1991; he was active in numerous community and professional affairs, serving as president of the Oklahoma Petroleum Council and the Lakeway Civic Corporation; and WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Cuth Shepherd: his daughter and son-in-law, Carol Sue and Gus Raymond Alborn; his son and daughter-in-law, William Kenneth and Carole Linda Shepherd; his brother Keith Shepherd; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Cuth Kenneth Shepherd.
