SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 944
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Silver Ribbon Community Partners for its dedicated
service in assisting the elderly and disabled citizens of Hidalgo
and Starr Counties; and
WHEREAS, Silver Ribbon Community Partners is a nonprofit
United Way organization established in 1996 to provide emergency
assistance to elderly and disabled residents of Hidalgo and Starr
Counties who have been referred to Adult Protective Services due
to abuse, exploitation, or neglect; and
WHEREAS, More than 2,500 cases of abuse, neglect, or
exploitation of elderly or disabled persons are reported each
year in Hidalgo County, and Silver Ribbon Community Partners
plays an important role in helping many of these individuals get
the help they need; and
WHEREAS, Among the programs this exemplary organization
sponsors is Locked Up for the Love of an Elderly, in which local
dignitaries and business leaders are subject to a simulated
arrest and must post bail to obtain their release; this bail is
actually a donation to help the organization fund its operations
to assist the area's elderly population; and
WHEREAS, It is truly fitting that this compassionate
organization receive recognition for its outstanding work in
serving the most vulnerable among us; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
Legislature, hereby commend the staff and volunteers of Silver
Ribbon Community Partners on their exceptional efforts in behalf
of the senior citizens of Hidalgo and Starr Counties and extend
to them best wishes for continued success in this vital
undertaking; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
this outstanding organization as an expression of esteem from the
Texas Senate.
