 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Residents of Starr County lost one of their esteemed
 community leaders with the death of Dr. Ramiro Narro of Weslaco on
 December 3, 2008, at the age of 76; and
 WHEREAS, Ramiro Narro was born in McAllen on December 9,
 1931, to Jose Maria Narro and Eva Guerra Narro; after graduating
 from McAllen High School in 1951, he answered his nation's call to
 duty and joined the U.S. Navy; he served as a hospital corpsman
 aboard the U.S.S. Repose and the U.S.S. New Jersey during the Korean
 War; and
 WHEREAS, Returning to Texas, Dr. Narro earned his bachelor's
 degree in pharmacy from The University of Texas at Austin in 1959
 and his medical degree from The University of Texas Southwestern
 Medical School in 1963; and
 WHEREAS, A family practitioner for more than four decades,
 Dr. Narro founded and operated Narro Medical Center Hospital in Rio
 Grande City; he also served as medical director of Starr County
 Memorial Hospital Rural Health Clinic in Roma and as a doctor with
 Community Action Corporation of South Texas; for over 25 years, he
 was the Starr County health officer, and for more than a decade, he
 was the Starr County rabies authority; and
 WHEREAS, Dr. Narro was active in his profession as president
 of both the Hidalgo-Starr County Medical Society and the Valley
 Chapter of the Texas Academy of Family Physicians; moreover, he was
 a board member of TAFP, a life member of the American Academy of
 Family Physicians, and a member of the American and Texas Medical
 Associations; and
 WHEREAS, Among Dr. Narro's other community leadership roles
 were president of the Starr County Memorial Hospital board, vice
 president of the Rio Grande City Consolidated Independent School
 District board, and president of the Rotary Club; in addition, he
 was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the
 International Order of Alhambra El Cid Caravan No. 106; and
 WHEREAS, Through the years, Dr. Narro was supported in his
 endeavors by his wife, the former Maria Celeste Gutierrez, and
 their four children, Celeste, Ramiro, Yvonne, and Dario; and
 WHEREAS, A dedicated physician and a public-spirited
 citizen, Dr. Ramiro Narro is deeply missed, but the compassion and
 integrity with which he lived his life continue to inspire all who
 had the good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life and
 legacy of Dr. Ramiro Narro.
