 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, United States Marine Corps Sergeant Jacob De la
 Garza of Edinburg was gravely wounded in the line of duty on May 21,
 2011, while serving his country in Afghanistan; and
 WHEREAS, Deployed to Afghanistan with the 1st Battalion, 5th
 Marine Division, Sergeant De la Garza was injured while on patrol
 when a roadside bomb exploded in Sangin, a small town northwest of
 Kandahar; he was flown to Germany and then to the Naval Medical
 Center in San Diego for treatment; and
 WHEREAS, Jacob De la Garza graduated from Edinburg High
 School in 2000 and was stationed at Camp Pendleton in California;
 before his deployment to Afghanistan, this brave young Texan
 completed three tours of duty in Iraq; as recounted in the book We
 Were One: Shoulder to Shoulder with the Marines Who Took Fallujah,
 Sergeant De la Garza saved the lives of several fellow Marines when
 they were attacked by the enemy; and
 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Sergeant De la Garza is
 supported by the love of a devoted family that includes his wife,
 Priscilla, his two children, Jayden and Brealynn, his mother, Anita
 de Leon, his father, Robert De la Garza, and his brothers, Javier
 and Julian De la Garza; and
 WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt of gratitude to our
 country's military personnel, for they are called on to bear great,
 often unimaginable burdens, and they render service and sacrifice
 that is truly beyond measure; Sergeant De la Garza embodies the
 highest ideals of the United States armed forces, and his courage
 under fire and his unwavering commitment to his mission and to his
 comrades-in-arms make him truly deserving of commendation; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor Sergeant Jacob De la
 Garza for his valorous service in Iraq and Afghanistan and extend to
 him heartfelt best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Sergeant De la Garza as an expression of high regard by
 the Texas House of Representatives.
