No. 163 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Antonio Palaganas, who passed away on May 27, 2011, at the age of 72; and WHEREAS, Mr. Palaganas was born to Pacita and Fausto Palaganas in Dagupan City, in the Philippines, on September 1, 1938; educated in his native country, he was a summa cum laude graduate of the University of the Philippines College of Law; and WHEREAS, Tony Palaganas lived for a number of years in North Texas and served as the first executive director of the Greater Dallas Asian American Chamber of Commerce; in that capacity, he worked tirelessly to establish a solid foundation for the organization and its programs; and WHEREAS, A staunch Methodist, Mr. Palaganas was instrumental in organizing the National Association of Filipino American United Methodists; he was a valued congregant of Faith United Methodist Church in Richardson and First Filipino American UMC in Houston; in addition to his church-related affiliations, he was a member of the Masonic Order; and WHEREAS, Next to delighting in the company of his family and friends, Mr. Palaganas most enjoyed spending his leisure hours fishing; and WHEREAS, Tony Palaganas and his first wife, Miriam, shared a devoted union of 37 years and became the proud parents of three children, Rafael, Grace, and Toni Lynn; after becoming a widower, Mr. Palaganas was fortunate enough to find love again and, six years ago, he and his second wife, Esther, exchanged their wedding vows; the couple made their home in Galveston; and WHEREAS, Beloved for his friendliness, cheerful good humor, and ready words of encouragement, Tony Palaganas led a life of exemplary service, and those who were blessed to share in the warmth of his love and affection will forever hold him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Antonio Palaganas and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Esther Palaganas; to his children and their spouses, Rafael and Michelle Palaganas, Grace and Elmer Codina, and Toni Lynn and Chris Boykin; to his grandchildren, Lauren, Jacqueline, and Marco Palaganas, Zachary and Cade Codina, and Chase Boykin; to his brothers, Mercury, Leonard, Fausto, and Pio Palaganas; to his sister, Fe Tipay; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Antonio Palaganas.
