 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The Eighth Annual Awareness Banquet hosted by the
 Dallas/Fort Worth chapter of the Korean American Coalition is
 taking place on August 13, 2011, providing a fitting opportunity to
 honor the coalition and its newly elected chapter president, Soo
 Yeon Nam; and
 WHEREAS, This year's banquet is part of the Korean American
 Coalition national convention, which is being held in Dallas for
 the first time; the banquet will highlight Korean American issues,
 review the coalition's accomplishments over the past year, and
 introduce the executive staff; and
 WHEREAS, A nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy organization, the
 Korean American Coalition works to facilitate Korean American
 participation in civic and legislative affairs; it was founded in
 1983 in Los Angeles and has since grown into a national organization
 with chapters in a number of U.S. cities; among other worthy
 initiatives, the Dallas/Fort Worth chapter, which was established
 in 2004, has implemented a public-speaking course for high school
 students; and
 WHEREAS, By providing a forum for Texans of Korean descent to
 forge beneficial relationships and address mutual concerns, the
 Korean American Coalition is making a positive difference in the
 lives of many; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the Eighth
 Annual Awareness Banquet hosted by the Dallas/Fort Worth chapter of
 the Korean American Coalition and extend best wishes to chapter
 president Soo Yeon Nam and the other members of the organization;
 and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
 for the chapter and for Ms. Nam as an expression of high regard by
 the Texas House of Representatives.
