H.R. No. 175 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of State District Judge Britton E. Plunk of Silsbee, who passed away on May 17, 2011, at the age of 64; and WHEREAS, The son of Mona and Eddie R. Plunk and a lifelong resident of Silsbee, Britt Plunk was born on May 10, 1947; he graduated from Silsbee High School in 1965 and attended The University of Texas at Austin before transferring to Lamar University, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1969; he then earned his juris doctorate at South Texas College of Law and was admitted to the bar in 1973; and WHEREAS, After working in private practice, Judge Plunk joined the district attorney's office in Hardin County in 1977; that same year, he married his high school sweetheart, the former Jan Ford, and the couple shared 34 years together as husband and wife and raised one daughter, Catherine; and WHEREAS, Judge Plunk was elected as county attorney in 1983; two years later, the State of Texas created the 356th Judicial District Court, and he was appointed to the judgeship; area residents repeatedly voted to retain him in that office, and he oversaw the court until his passing; during his notable tenure, he heard more than 20,000 civil and criminal cases, and he was well known in the county as a fair and dedicated judge; despite his busy schedule, he made time to travel to his ranch in South Texas, where he enjoyed bird and deer hunting; and WHEREAS, Judge Plunk led a productive life that was made rich through meaningful service and accomplishments, and his contributions to his community will be remembered and admired for years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of the Honorable Britton E. Plunk and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Jan; to his daughter, Catherine Plunk-Mauer, and her husband, Patrick; to his mother, Mona Britton Plunk; to his sister, Mary Susan Plunk; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Judge Britt Plunk.
