 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The baseball team of Coronado High School in Lubbock
 put together an exceptional season in 2011 as it made a thrilling
 run through the University Interscholastic League playoffs to
 finish as the runner-up in Class 5A; and
 WHEREAS, A group of never-say-die competitors, the Mustangs
 time and again proved their ability to come from behind to secure
 key victories; after finishing in second place in District 2-5A
 during the regular season, the team battled its way through the
 playoffs, triumphing in four consecutive series after losing the
 opening game; and
 WHEREAS, With its win over Bell High on June 4, Coronado
 headed for the state tournament for the first time since 1995; in
 the semifinals, the Mustangs dominated defending champion Corpus
 Christi Carroll 10-0 to earn a place in the title game, but they
 fell one victory short of the state championship, losing to
 Brazoswood in the June 11 final; and
 WHEREAS, Demonstrating admirable teamwork, the Mustangs
 received valuable contributions from each member of the roster:
 Tyler O'Neill, Blake Hoffman, Christian Simmons, Paxton Bartley,
 Colton Palmer, Dylan Dahl, Gunner Garry, Josh Narvaiz, Paxton De La
 Garza, Brayden Blackwell, Herman Hernandez, Steven Parker, Clayton
 Brown, Garrison Howard, Brennan Johnson, Bryson Mitchell, Zane
 Ancell, Tyler Thorne, Greg Hewett, Zach Ancell, Griffin Arterburn,
 Taylor Bridges, Landon Rousseau, Blake Bass, Jerome Bauersfeld,
 Craig Grossman, and Chace Sarchet; and
 WHEREAS, In addition to their commitment to the team, these
 young athletes have devoted themselves to their studies; of the
 senior members of the squad, 10 graduated with honors or high
 honors; moreover, all 13 Mustangs who earned their diplomas in 2011
 plan to continue their educations, and 8 of them will play sports at
 the collegiate level; and
 WHEREAS, The Coronado High team was guided by head coach Gary
 Hix and assistant coaches Brandon Gilliland, David Arterburn, Brad
 Bibb, and Shawn Hensley, and the players also benefited from the
 efforts of team manager Geoffery Harvey; and
 WHEREAS, By dedicating themselves to excellence and putting
 in many hours of hard work, the Coronado Mustangs earned a place
 alongside the finest teams in Texas, and their accomplishments are
 a source of pride for their many supporters in the Lubbock
 community; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the Coronado
 High School baseball team on its outstanding 2011 season and its
 appearance in the UIL 5A state title game and extend to the team's
 players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for continued
 success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the Coronado Mustangs as an expression of high regard
 by the Texas House of Representatives.
