No. 283 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The "Just Kauz It's Right" nonprofit initiative is making a positive difference in the lives of schoolchildren in the Rio Grande Valley, and the program's founder, Maricela De Leon, is deserving of commendation for her innovative efforts to help others; and WHEREAS, Ms. De Leon decided in 2009 to assist students at San Carlos Elementary School, which she had attended through the fifth grade; located outside of Edinburg, the school serves many children who may not have access to supplies, and Ms. De Leon set a goal of providing needed back-to-school items to 100 students; with support from family, friends, Walmart, colleagues in her university graduate program, and Brenda Lee Huerta at Radio La Tremenda 1530 AM in McAllen, Ms. De Leon succeeded in meeting her objective; and WHEREAS, The following year, the project was expanded to provide supplies to 200 children at San Carlos Elementary; in 2011, Just Kauz It's Right has earned official nonprofit status, and Ms. De Leon plans to conduct the third annual back-to-school fund-raising drive, broadening the effort to encompass more than 400 students at three local elementary schools; the nonprofit will be managed by a board of directors, including Maribel Reyes, Giselle Mireles, Victor Flores, Felicia Ramirez, Juan De Leon, Jr., Lyna Campos, Erika Conde, and Rebecca Leah Villanueva; and WHEREAS, This worthwhile endeavor has benefited numerous residents of South Texas, and its founder, volunteers, and contributors have demonstrated outstanding leadership and dedication in helping to make it a success; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby recognize the Just Kauz It's Right initiative and extend to Maricela De Leon and all those associated with the project sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. De Leon as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
