No. 287 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The city of Mineola lost one of its most admired citizens with the passing of David Coulter Templeton on June 12, 2011, at the age of 84; and WHEREAS, Born in Marshall on September 17, 1926, Coulter Templeton was the son of C. B. and Bernice Templeton; he spent much of his childhood in Avinger with his grandfather, who taught him about lumber and construction; after graduating from Mineola High School, he served as a pharmacist's mate in the United States Navy during World War II; he went on to earn his bachelor's degree in business administration from Southern Methodist University, where he joined the Kappa Sigma fraternity and played saxophone in the Mustang Band; and WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan founded the Coulter Templeton Lumber Company in Mineola in 1949, and he was also an investor and a founder of the Mineola State Bank; deeply committed to helping others, he served as a trustee of the Meredith Foundation for 20 years, and he worked tirelessly on a variety of community projects, including collecting aluminum cans for the Rotary Club; the club named him a Paul Harris Fellow, and in 1990 the Mineola Chamber of Commerce selected him as Man of the Year; and WHEREAS, He married the love of his life, Jean Lynch Templeton, at the age of 63, and became a father figure to her young daughters, Jean and Mary, and a trusted friend to her sons, John, Robert, and Dan; he was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Mineola and of the Cage Men's Class Sunday School, and with his kind, gentle manner and marvelous sense of humor, he endeared himself to numerous friends; and WHEREAS, Coulter Templeton lived a caring and purposeful life, and those who were privileged to know him will forever remember his joyful nature, his generosity, and his devotion to his family and his community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of David Coulter Templeton and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Jean Lynch Templeton; to his children, John Brassard, Robert Brassard, Dan Brassard and his wife, Yvonne, Jean van Zyl and her husband, Marius, and Mary Turner and her husband, Matt; to his grandchildren, Daniel, Peter, and Lucie Jane van Zyl, Benjamin Brassard, and Andrew Turner; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of David Coulter Templeton.
