H.R. No. 45 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Honorable John A. Pope III, former state district judge, has contributed to his profession and his community throughout his distinguished legal career; and WHEREAS, A native of Rio Grande City, Judge Pope earned his bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University and went on to graduate from St. Mary's University School of Law; respected in his field, he has served as regional vice president of the American Law Students Association and been a valued member of the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct Committee and Delta Theta Phi; and WHEREAS, Judge Pope became state district judge of the 381st Judicial District in 1995, and throughout the following decade his knowledge and commitment to justice earned him the lasting respect of all who were privileged to work with him; since retiring from the bench in 2006, he has enjoyed a notable tenure with the law firm of Atlas & Hall in McAllen; and WHEREAS, This esteemed jurist has further helped to enrich the lives of his fellow citizens as a charter member of his local Rotary Club, and his efforts in behalf of the group have been recognized with the Paul Smith Award; and WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Judge Pope has been supported by a loving family that includes his wife, Ana Maria, and his children, Mayela and John; and WHEREAS, John Pope has served the State of Texas with great skill and dedication, and his myriad good works have made a lasting, positive difference in his community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the Honorable John A. Pope III for his exceptional contributions to the legal profession and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Judge Pope as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
