SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 129 In Memory of Dunk Jorden, Jr. WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Houston in mourning the loss of Dunk Jorden, Jr., who died June 17, 2011, at the age of 85; and WHEREAS, Dunk Jorden was born January 15, 1926, in Lecompte, Louisiana; after attending school in Lecompte, he and his sister moved to Houston, and he became a resident of Independence Heights; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jorden worked for a construction company and helped to build many of the buildings in downtown Houston; and WHEREAS, He was a devout Christian and was a member of the Bella Vista Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as church bus driver; he was also a member of the Baptist Training Union and the choir; and WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman, Dunk Jorden was a generous, kind-hearted person who was respected in the community; and WHEREAS, Known for his wisdom and compassion, he gave unselfishly to others, and he was devoted to his family; he was beloved by many, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by all who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Dunk Jorden, Jr.; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dunk Jorden, Jr. Whitmire ________________________________ President of the Senate I hereby certify that the above Resolution was adopted by the Senate on June 28, 2011, by a rising vote. ________________________________ Secretary of the Senate ________________________________ Member, Texas Senate
