SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 53 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Raymundo Arellano, Jr., who retired May 20, 2011, after nearly three decades of outstanding service with the Brownsville Police Department; and WHEREAS, Officer Arellano joined the Brownsville Police Department in 1982 and began patrolling on horseback; he went on to serve with many divisions within the department, including the Special Investigations Unit, the Burglary Detail Task Force, Municipal Court Operations, the Training Division, and the Office of Community Affairs; and WHEREAS, Dedicated to helping the people of Brownsville, Officer Arellano served as coordinator for the department's Community and Youth Programs; he played an important role in the success of the department's annual Christmas for Kids Toy Giveaway; and WHEREAS, A man of courage and tenacity, Officer Arellano has been dedicated to making the streets of Brownsville safer for its citizens, and he has consistently demonstrated solid judgment in dealing with the unique challenges of law enforcement duty; in honor of his superior service, he received the department's Employee Recognition Award; and WHEREAS, An exemplary peace officer, he is respected and admired by his colleagues, and his presence at the Brownsville Police Department will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Raymundo Arellano, Jr., on his exceptional service to the people of Brownsville as an officer with the Brownsville Police Department; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
