SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 85
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Dr. Stephen B. Kinslow, president and chief executive
officer of the Austin Community College District, who is retiring
after 34 years of loyal service to the college; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stephen B. Kinslow was named president and
chief executive officer of the Austin Community College District
in 2005, after having previously served the college in a number
of roles, including as interim president, executive vice
president, vice president, provost, dean, and associate dean; he
joined the college in 1977 as an instructor; and
WHEREAS, He holds a doctorate from The University of Texas
at Austin, a master's degree from Southern Methodist University,
and a bachelor's degree from The University of Texas at
Arlington; before joining Austin Community College, he worked in
the Dallas County Community College District and as a public
school teacher; and
WHEREAS, Austin Community College has seen significant
growth since Dr. Kinslow was named president and chief executive
officer, and the lives of many citizens have changed because of
his efforts to provide and expand access to affordable, quality
higher education in the Austin area; and
WHEREAS, An active leader in the community, he has served
on the boards of directors of numerous civic, academic, and
professional organizations, and he has received numerous honors
for his achievements, his leadership, and his service; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stephen Kinslow has truly had a positive
impact in Austin and the surrounding communities through his
service with the Austin Community College District, and his
presence at the college will be greatly missed; on July 7, 2011,
he is being honored at an event that will benefit the Dr. Stephen
B. Kinslow Endowed Scholarship, which assists students who have
overcome significant life challenges to pursue their education
at Austin Community College; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Dr. Stephen B.
Kinslow for his service and his many contributions to Austin
Community College and the educational system of this state and
extend to him best wishes in his retirement; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate.
