SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 96 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Brownsville chapter of the National Pan American Golf Association, which is hosting the association's 54th annual conference and tournament; and WHEREAS, Founded in November of 1958, the Brownsville chapter is led by president Jesus Vicinaiz; under his leadership, conference cochairs Dr. Olivia Rivas and Robert Rivas and steering committee members Nellie Garcia, Ruben S. Garcia, Freddy Moreno, Dan Ortiz, Manny Ortiz, Manny Saenz, and Rudy Soliz have worked hard to ensure the success of this important event; and WHEREAS, Dedicated to promoting golf for the entire family, the Brownsville chapter of the National Pan American Golf Association has in the last 10 years alone provided more than $40,000 in scholarship money to deserving students; and WHEREAS, The Brownsville chapter is hosting this prestigious tournament for the fifth time, drawing on the success of its earlier efforts to provide the best possible experience for all participants; the conference and tournament are expected to draw more than 600 golfers and some 2,000 tourists to the city, making it one of the largest conventions in Brownsville's history; and WHEREAS, It is truly fitting that this exemplary organization be recognized for its many contributions to the community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the Brownsville chapter of the National Pan American Golf Association and extend best wishes to its officers and members for a successful national conference and tournament; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the association as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
