                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 98
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Presbyterian Pan American School on the momentous
 occasion of its centennial anniversary; and
 WHEREAS, A fully accredited, coeducational, college
 preparatory high school, Presbyterian Pan American School offers
 a rigorous curriculum designed to foster academic excellence,
 spiritual development, and leadership and service training; and
 WHEREAS, The school was originally known as the Texas
 Mexican Industrial Institute for Boys, and students worked on its
 200 acres of farmland and learned such trades as construction and
 plumbing in addition to pursuing their academic studies; it
 merged with the Presbyterian School for Mexican Girls in 1956 to
 create Presbyterian Pan American School; and
 WHEREAS, Through the years the school has engendered great
 loyalty among its alumni, many of whom have sent their children
 to their alma mater; some current students are the fourth
 generation from their family to attend the school; and
 WHEREAS, Presbyterian Pan American School offers its
 students numerous extracurricular activities; several students
 are participants in the National Honor Society, have won prizes
 at local science fairs, and have participated in 4-H activities,
 and the school's soccer team has won a state championship; and
 WHEREAS, Presbyterian Pan American School has established
 itself as a leading educational institution in South Texas, and
 it is truly deserving of recognition for its many contributions
 to the region; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the students,
 faculty, and staff of Presbyterian Pan American School on their
 commitment to excellence in education and extend to them best
 wishes for a memorable 100th anniversary celebration; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 the school as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
